Decaying Zombie

Brisbane and the Zombie Horde

Today was the annual Brisbane Zombie walk at Roma Street Parklands. I clearly remember hearing from a work colleague circa 2010 about masses of people dressed up as the undead and wandering the city and was in love with the idea. I must admit though, that I have been very slack going to one of these events before. It was with great sadness that we all found out only last week that this was to be the very last Brisbane Zombie walk due to the costs of running the event and the sheer size of it now. That meant that there was absolutely no way in hell that I was going to miss out on it today.

With my trusty new Super-mega-ultra-zoom lens, I headed out with an old friend who used to help with Epicshots many years ago (Hi Trista) to see if we could shoot some zombies! Muahaha. In true Brisbane fashion (haha) there was a gigantic turn out and thousands of people. The rain even managed to hold out and we were blessed with some overcast but beautiful weather today.

I’ve gotta put it out there, the people who dressed up and covered themselves with SFX makeup / blood / gore / vomit today, wow a very impressive show! I’m quite a horror buff but I’ve gotta say I get a bit freaked out by the exploded-face looking Zombies. You guys and girls looked absolutely horrific in the best possible way!

Here is my summary of my favourite images from the day :

Selfie zombie, LOL. Just LOL.

A standout for me was “Dead Kelly” (a play on the name Ned Kelly)

Despite the Clown hysteria of late, there was a Zombie Clown present as well !!!!!!

Not sure I want to visit this doctor any time soon…

And my personal favourite. BEETLEJUICE, BEETLEJUICE, BEETLEJUICE !!!

Deep down, I really do hope that they can come up with a way to put on this event next year, but by the sounds of it – Brisbane just can’t support the event anymore.
*sad face goes here* Such a pity because this could become a world class event with just a little bit of support. Bringing in tourism and highlighting our city for one more day every year…

Many, many thanks to the event organisers, volunteers,  Roma St Parklands Staff, Queensland Police and everyone who dressed up for putting on a great show for 2016.
